Coffee Diary privacy policy
How Coffee Diary stores your diary and photos, what happens when you share an export, and how to delete your data.

Coffee Diary is a personal coffee notebook for iOS and Android. Your diary and saved photos stay in the app’s private storage on your device. You do not need an account. The app does not send your diary or photos to the developer, and this version has no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting SDK, or developer-operated sync service.
This policy describes the app’s local storage and sharing behavior. You control what you record, whether to add photos, and whether to export your diary.
On this page: Stored information · Photos and permissions · Sharing and backups · Exports · Deletion · Security · Contact.
What the app stores
Coffee Diary stores the information needed to display and manage your diary:
- Coffee names and Roasters, whether you would buy a Coffee again, and your first-choice Recipes.
- V60 Recipes, including dose, water, temperature, Grinder, grind setting, enjoyment, notes, creation time, brew count, and optional last-brewed date.
- App preferences, including your Grinder setting and theme choice.
- One optional packaging photo per Coffee.
These records and saved photo bytes are stored in the app’s private database on your device. You can choose to write personal information in free-text fields, or include it in a photo. Please be mindful of what you record.
Optional photos and permissions
You can take a packaging photo with the camera or choose an image through your device’s photo picker. The app uses camera or photo access for this optional feature. Where your device requests permission, you can decline it or change access later in your device’s settings. You can use the diary without adding photos.
The app saves its own processed JPEG copy. It preserves the whole image while resizing and compressing it, and removes embedded metadata such as location and capture time. This does not remove information visible in the image itself.
Coffee Diary does not automatically add camera captures to your photo library. Removing the library original does not remove the app’s saved copy. Replacing or removing a Coffee photo does not keep a photo history in the app.
Collection, sharing, and backups
Coffee Diary does not automatically upload your diary data or photos, and the developer does not receive them through the app. There is no account or developer-operated cloud storage for your diary.
- Android: optional cloud backup and device-to-device transfer of app data are disabled in the Android release configuration.
- iOS: app data may be included in backups managed by your device and operating-system settings.
A photo’s availability through your device’s picker may depend on that device’s photo-library services. The app keeps its processed saved copy locally. Device backups, photo-library services, and apps or services you choose when sharing are governed by their providers’ terms and your settings.
Exporting your diary
When you tap Export diary, Coffee Diary creates one ZIP archive containing:
diary.json, with your saved Coffees, Recipes, and Grinder setting.- An
imagesfolder containing every current Coffee photo, linked from the JSON.
The app uses the same ZIP format when there are no photos. It opens your device’s share sheet, and you choose whether and where to save or send the archive. A recipient app or service you choose may store or upload it under its own privacy terms.
The app does not encrypt exported archives. An export includes your notes and current photos, so check its contents before sharing and keep saved copies secure.
Temporary acquisition and export files are cleaned up when no longer needed. An interruption can leave temporary copies in the app’s cache until removed by the operating system or when app data is cleared.
Retention and deletion
Your local records remain until you delete them, clear the app’s data, or uninstall the app.
- Delete a Recipe: this removes that Recipe. Deleting the last Recipe for a Coffee retains the Coffee’s metadata and photo.
- Remove a photo: this deletes the Coffee’s current saved photo copy from the diary.
- Permanently delete a Coffee: this removes the Coffee, its Recipes, and its photo.
- Remove the whole local diary: clear the app’s data where your device provides that option, or uninstall the app. On iOS, delete the app to remove its local data; offloading keeps documents and data.
Deletion in the app does not remove copies you previously exported or copies in device backups. Delete exported copies from their destinations and manage backups through the relevant device or service settings.
The app does not provide import, account-based recovery, or an account-based deletion request. The developer does not hold a server copy of your diary and cannot recover or remotely delete your local records. Use Export diary to keep a copy before uninstalling or moving devices; an export is a copy for your own use, not an in-app restore option.
Security
The database is stored in app-private storage and protected by your device’s operating system. Coffee Diary does not add separate encryption to the database or exported archives. Protect access to your device and keep any exports and backups secure.
Changes and questions
If the app’s data practices change, an updated policy and effective date will be provided in the app and at this public policy address.
